The Water Scrying Bowl

Fill a dark bowl with water and add a single drop of ink. Set two candles on either side and gaze into the dark surface without blinking until images, symbols, or impressions begin to form in your mind's eye.
Level Advanced
Time 25-40 minutes
Moon Full Moon or Dark Moon (both are powerful for scrying)
What You Will Need
A dark-colored bowl
Black, deep blue, or dark ceramic. The darker the interior, the better the scrying surface.
Water
Enough to fill the bowl to just below the rim. Still, clean water.
A drop of black ink or dark food coloring
To darken the water and create a mirror-like surface for gazing.
A white or black candle
Positioned behind you so its light reflects in the water but does not shine in your eyes.
A quiet, dimly lit space
Darkness around the bowl helps your eyes relax into the soft-focus state needed for scrying.
Moon Phase & Timing
Water scrying is an ancient practice of gazing into dark water to receive visions and impressions. The moon phase dramatically affects the depth of what you see.
Full Moon: The veil between conscious and intuitive sight is thinnest. Visions come more easily.
Dark Moon: Best for deep, hidden truths. What you see may be more symbolic and challenging to interpret.
Waning Moon: Good for seeing what is ending or what you need to release.
