The Souring Jar
Build a jar to sour a specific relationship or situation, using vinegar and bitter ingredients.
What You Will Need
Glass jar with a tight lid
Seals and contains the souring energy, creating a fermentation chamber for misfortune
White vinegar
The primary souring agent that curdles good fortune and turns sweetness to acid
Lemon juice or a lemon slice
Amplifies the bitterness and adds the sharpness of citric decay to the working
Salt
Corrodes and dissolves the bonds of the target's good fortune or relationship
Black pepper
Adds irritation and discord, ensuring the sourness is felt as friction and argument
Piece of paper and pen
Carries the target's name and the specific fortune or relationship you are souring
Black candle
Seals the jar with the energy of endings, finality, and irreversible decline
Moon Phase & Timing
The waning moon governs all processes of decline and souring, and jar spells begun during this phase ferment with the moon's own energy of diminishment.
Waning Gibbous: Begin here for a slow, thorough souring that erodes fortune gradually and completely over weeks
Waning Quarter: Creates a sharp, noticeable turn in the target's luck that they cannot ignore or rationalize away
Waning Crescent: Intense and rapid souring for situations requiring immediate intervention in the target's good fortune
