The Rosemary Smoke Shield
Burn a bundle of dried rosemary and carry the smoking herb through each room of your home, paying special attention to corners and thresholds, to establish a protective barrier of purifying smoke.
What You Will Need
A bundle of dried rosemary
About 4-6 inches of dried rosemary sprigs tied together with cotton string. Fresh rosemary from the grocery store can be air-dried for a few days. Alternatively, loose dried rosemary on a charcoal disc works well.
A fireproof dish or shell
To catch falling embers and ash. A ceramic plate, metal bowl, or large shell all work. You will carry this through your home.
A match or lighter
To light the rosemary bundle. Long matches or a long-reach lighter are most comfortable.
A cup of salt water
Mix a tablespoon of salt into a cup of water. This is for sprinkling at doorways after the smoke has passed through.
A feather or your hand
To direct the smoke into corners, closets, and along walls. A large feather is traditional, but your cupped hand works perfectly.
Moon Phase & Timing
Smoke cleansing can be done whenever your space feels heavy, stale, or unwelcoming. Moon timing adds precision to the clearing.
Waning Moon: Best for driving out stagnant or negative energy. The retreating moon pulls unwanted forces out with it.
New Moon: The darkest night is ideal for a deep reset. Cleanse on the new moon to start the next cycle with a completely clear space.
After Conflict or Illness: Regardless of moon phase, smoke-cleanse your home after arguments, illness, unwanted visitors, or any event that left a residue you can feel but not name.
