The Obsidian Mirror Ritual

A scrying-based protection ritual using obsidian to identify and neutralize hidden threats.
Level Advanced
Time 25-30 minutes
Moon Full Moon or Waning Moon
What You Will Need
Dark or black-surfaced mirror
The obsidian mirror is traditionally a piece of polished obsidian, but any dark reflective surface works: a black-framed mirror, a dark phone or tablet screen turned off, or the bottom of a dark-colored pot filled with water.
Black candle
Provides the only light source during the ritual. The flickering flame creates the conditions for scrying and absorption. Use any dark-colored candle if black is unavailable.
Salt
Creates a protective circle around your working space. This is essential for advanced mirror work. Any kitchen salt is suitable.
Cloth to cover the mirror
A dark cloth to wrap the mirror before and after the ritual. A black t-shirt, dark towel, or dark pillowcase works.
Bowl of water
Placed nearby to ground excess energy after the ritual. Add a pinch of salt to the water for extra purification.
Moon Phase & Timing
Dark mirror rituals work with shadow and depth, making lunar alignment crucial for safety and effectiveness.
Full Moon: Perform under the full moon for maximum power in trapping harmful magic. The contrast between the full moon's bright light and the dark mirror creates the strongest absorptive vacuum.
Waning Moon: The waning moon supports the mirror's ability to absorb and diminish harmful magic, drawing it into the dark surface as the moon's own light fades.
