The Cord Cutting Ceremony
Light two candles side by side connected by a length of string. As the flame burns through the cord, unhealthy energetic attachments that drain your vitality are permanently severed.
What You Will Need
Two taper candles
One represents you, one represents the person, habit, or attachment you are severing from. White candles work universally, or choose black for the attachment and white for yourself.
A length of string or twine
About twelve inches long. Cotton kitchen twine or any natural fiber string works perfectly. This physically connects the two candles and will be burned through during the ritual.
A fireproof surface
A baking sheet, ceramic plate, or metal tray large enough to hold both candles with space between them. Wax and burned string will fall here.
A pen and two small pieces of paper
To label each candle with what it represents. Tape or pin the labels to the base of each candle.
Matches or a lighter
To light both candles simultaneously or in quick succession.
A bowl of salt water
For grounding and cleansing your hands after the cord is cut. Mix a spoon of salt into cool water.
Moon Phase & Timing
Cord cutting is a spell of release and separation. It draws power from the moon's diminishing light.
Waning Moon: The most natural timing for cord cutting. As the moon releases its light, you release the bond that no longer serves you.
Dark Moon: Use for the most stubborn attachments — toxic relationships, deep-seated habits, or bonds that have resisted previous attempts at release.
Tuesday: Mars energy on Tuesday adds force, courage, and decisiveness to the cut. Choose a Tuesday during the waning moon for maximum power.
